Chest nuts are delicious and also very pretty. In some countries you can pick them for free as they fall of the trees in parks and regular neighborhoods. Even if you have to pay for the chest nuts they don’t have to be very expensive and they are pretty easy to prepare.
Some like to cook their chest nuts in the microwave oven and this is very convenient and fast. If you prefer to cook without a microwave you can still prepare the chest nuts easily. You can either roast them in the oven or boil them.
No matter which method you chose it is always a good idea to prepare the chest nuts with a cross cut before cooking them. If you don’t do this the nut might explode from the heat! Use a sharp knife and make deep cuts over the round side of the nut. (it is easier this way since the chest nut will lay flat against the table when you cut)
Boil the chest nuts for 20 minutes and then remove them from the water. After this you can roast them 10 to 15 minutes in the oven if you want to get that crisp and brownish look.
Chest nuts have such a sweet and delicious taste but make sure to eat them close to the cooking. That is when they taste the best!
