Buy Second-Hand Clothes
One of the best ways to live environmentally friendly is to reduce waste. Most of the waste comes from the clothes that we dispose of. If you want to be more eco-friendly, try your best to buy second-hand clothes.
Or, if you want to buy new clothes, try to buy things that are biodegradable, like bamboo socks, that you can buy from local or international stores. Just by dressing in a fabric that is good for the environment, you are making a difference!
Consider giving used clothing to new babies. This is actually only nice for the child that gets soft fabric that has been through the laundry machine so many times that no dangerous chemicals are left.
Reduce your Energy Consumption
You can save energy by doing things like turning off lights when you leave a room, unplugging appliances when they’re not in use, and wearing layers of clothing instead of turning up the heat. Reducing your energy consumption saves money and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
You can reduce your impact on the environment by:
- Driving less
- Taking the bus
- Arranging a carpool
- Ride a bike
- Walk!
When you walk or ride a bike you are not only reducing your carbon footprint. You are burning your own energy and you are building health!
There are also products produced using less energy. By buying these you are helping the companies that care about finding ways to produce in an eco-friendly way.
You can Repurpose your Furniture
Furniture consumption is great worldwide. And the furniture is thereby something that adds to the global waste pile.
With a little bit of creativity, you can make your old furniture look brand new. For example, you can take an old dresser and repurpose it to be a bathroom vanity. All you need to do is add a sink and some plumbing and you have a brand-new piece of furniture for your home.
Another great idea is to take an old coffee table and make an ottoman of it. Simply add some fabric and padding. You’ll have a comfortable place to rest your feet rather than a boring coffee table that you want to throw out. You can even get storage from this new piece of furniture by adding a removable lid.
Finding new ways to use old furniture is a fantastic way to reduce waste!
Taking care of the environment is important. Do the things discussed above and the world will be a little bit better place to live in.
